Welcome Function – Ivy

A short walk from the Convention Hotel – the Westin is a very well-known Sydney Bar called the Ivy and it was here that delegates gathered for the first social function of the Convention on Monday evening 14th March.

The event was sponsored by our Platinum sponsor Lion and was held around the pool area inside the Ivy. It was well attended by approximately 350 delegates who enjoyed a range of cold beers and great finger food. One of the highlights of the evening was the receipt of the Asia Pacific “Urns” which has become a great tradition at our Conventions. The urns contain the ashes of two wooden Shields that were historically transported from Convention to Convention. The shields were burnt following the 2010 Convention on the Gold Coast and are now presented at the Welcome function and then handed on to the next Convention Chairman at the conclusion. The photograph shows two members of the Organising Committee, Chris Wilcock and Mark Toomey receiving the Urns watched by Peter David the Convention Chairman.

Despite a few rain showers, this was a very successful function, held in a relaxed atmosphere by the Pool with the Lion logo decorating the floor of the Pool. It was a great start to what became a great Convention.

Bill Taylor & Mark Toomey – thumbs up for the night.
